Was researching oil today and found the 2014 owners manual is updated with additional text regarding approved oils... below is the text printed regarding track package cars

Note 6: Your engine has been designed to use Motorcraft engine oils or equivalent oils that meet Ford specifications. It is also acceptable to use an engine oil of recommended viscosity grade that meets API SN requirements and displays the API Certification Mark for gasoline engines.
Note 7: Do not use supplemental engine oil additives in your engine. They are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage that is not covered by your Ford warranty.
Note 8: Do not use API S category oils labeled as SN, SM, SL or lower category unless the label also display the API certification mark. These oils do not meet the requirements of the engine and emissions system.

This is quite different from the 2013 manual note:
Your engine has been designed to be used with Ford engine oil, which gives a fuel economy benefit while maintaining the durability of your engine.
Using oils other than the one specified can result in longer engine cranking periods, reduced engine performance, reduced fuel economy and increased emission levels.



Takeaway is more oil options as Ford prints that API certified oils that meet API SN requirements are approved it seems. Might go pick up some M1 5w50 and do a change...

Mobil 1 5w50
Castrol EDGE 5w50
Redline 5w50

There is a HUGE thread on another SVT Mustang forum in ref to engine oil for the Coyote motor. The oils listed are good. There are some others that won't sheer as bad as the Motorcraft which sheers down to a 10W40 Amsoil equivilent which doesn't sheer near as much.

I'm guessing that Ford's scare tactics led uneducated folks into buying only their oil, which is an illegal pratice.

I think the Motorcraft products are one of the best on the market, but making folks think it's the only one to use is poor form.

Yep, I am well aware of the thread with the oil analysis, part of the reason I did some research as well. I didn't like how the 2013 manual was worded (basically restricting to only Motorcraft to guarantee no warranty issues). The new wording offers some needed options to get away from Motorcraft which, per the analyses I've seen so far, seems to break down more than some other options.

I will be running my car hard and if there are ever engine issues I don't want to bother with proving the oil had nothing to do with it. Nice to have a bit of flexibility too as I can pick up M1 5w50 for quite a bit less than Motorcraft...

Being here in Europe poses some challenges when trying to find oil. I can get RP 5W30 here but in small shipments at the local store and they don't really get a regular batch in so I have to get it when I can. I'm trying to talk them into getting me some Syncromesh too but they won't budge. I haven't checked on M1 here locally because all the times I have looked they haven't had it. The filters I have to order so I am going to just get the RP filters as well.

Very interesting. I may have to go with redline oil next time around, i heard great things about it. What about the rest of the fluids, any recommendations?

You guys generally recommend for track time upping the oil from 5W-20 to 5W-30 (or higher) even Ford is recommending 5W-20? I know race applicatons typically use the higher viscosity, but I'd always assumed they're race engines too.

I just found 7 quarts of RP 5W-30.

Ford is recommending 5w50 for track pack cars. Ideally I would like to go with 5w40 full synthetic but ford recommends either 5w50 for Boss and Track Pack or 5w20 for all other GT's

The SVT forum thread lists specific sheer limits for different oil makers so just because it's a different weight of oil doesn't mean it's going to react the same as the Motorcraft oil.

Good to know. I always though it was more engine design and tolerances that determined oil weight recommendation, not merely the use. 5W-50 it is. I'm a Castrol man, so I'll have to see what I can dig up in the Castrol line of oils.

Question, do you think, then, for my 4.6 3V (2008 GT) I should use 5W-40 or 50 for track duty?

If I had no warranty concerns I would probably run 5w40 as its a group IV base stock... Have you run oil analysis in the past? I will be doing a couple to make sure the oil I use holds up and doesn't shear or lose additives... If 5w40 holds up well then I would have no issue running that, 5w50 may be a bit thick, but I will let my oil analysis tell me!! Castrol makes a 5w50 synthetic

Changes out my oil last night. The stock oil looked great (expected as I had 400 miles on it...) and Mobil 1 5w50 is now in. Going to see if any particles settle at the bottom of the drain pan that the original oil now resides in, may take the top couple quarts and use it in my Jeep for its next oil change. Any metal particles that may have come off I. He first couple hundred miles should be drained out now tho, so I ready to put on some good miles!!

I may just run 30 or 40. I think 50 is pushing it, but then, I'm not so savvy on this topic. I'll be watching your posts on any oil analysis for your Track Pack 5.0. Thanks, dmichaels.

Has anyone used Amsoil in their Coyote engines (or other parts of the Stang)? Unfortunately I don't see a 5w50. I'm just curious as I'm getting ready to order my car soon (hopefully by the end of the week) and was looking at the Track Pack.

Lots of people use Amsoil for the Track Pack and non-Track Pack cars in here. This package with the Recaros are worth every penny compared to piecing all of the parts separately. Don't hesitate.
